The Disrespected, Unprotected & Neglected was the one first posts I published here on Any Which Way. That post was written almost 2 years ago and in it, I focused on the treatment of Black women by the media.
I would say times have changed but that isn't true. What has changed is the progression of the disrepect we face on a daily. Actually that sentence isn't true either. The progression of disrespect has not changed - the angle that we're looking from has.
This year has been one for the books. 2020 Vision has given us a lot to look at. The mistreatment of Black people in the United States was brought to the forefront during a time when the world was world was locked down. We all watched the brutal murder of George Floyd. With limited distractions, we had time to think about what the phrase Black Lives Matter really means.
Following George Floyd's death, there were two shootings by police of black men caught on camera - Rayshard Brooks and Jacob Blake. America has shown outrage over this incessant persecution that Black American faces. The world is angry. America has shown it's pain.
As Martin Luther King, Jr once said, "A riot is the language of the unheard.
Throughout the United States, we have seen more protest, marches, and riots this summer than I can remember over the course of my lifetime. It feels like the louder we scream, the more our cries fall on deaf ears. While attention and funding for the #BlackLivesMatter movement is obvious, #SayHerName appears to be treated like a middle child. We know she's there but the focus remains on the others children. We cannot continue to ignore the plight of Black women.
Say Her Name - Breonna Taylor a 26 year old black woman murdered in her sleep by police officers in Louisville, Kentucky on March 13, 2020.
Say Her Name - Breonna Taylor a young black woman who had judicial policies and legal administrative changes named in her honor while her family and friends were harassed and victimized by the same system.
Say Her Name - Breonna Taylor a murder victim whom the City of Louisville decided her life was only worth $12 million dollars when in 2019 another major US city paid $20 million for death of a white woman at the hands of police.
Say Her Name - Breonna Taylor a black woman who a grand jury in state of Kentucky decided her life wasn't worth an indictment of the officers involved in her murder. But but stray bullets in wall were worthy of charges.
Say Her Name - Breonna Taylor. A prime example of being DISRESPECTED, UNPROTECTED and Neglected.
We must continue fight for and say the names of the Black Woman who's stories are down played or muted.
"The most disrespected person in America is the black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the black woman. The most neglected person in America is the black woman."
